DIVERSIONS
Terms and Conditions for freelance journalists - 2009
Background
diversions has been successfully operating
since 1989.
diversions is a travel, leisure and lifestyle
magazine distributed nationally to 8000 Healthcare Professionals (GP’s,
specialists in private practice and retail pharmacists), 6 times per year.
Content consists of travel articles (local, Africa and international) and
monthly regulars. Our readers are discerning and often well-traveled. Please
bear this in mind when writing and submitting material for consideration. We are
a high quality, glossy magazine and focus a great deal of effort on content and
image quality to uphold our reputation.
Conditions of submission
- All articles submitted are considered for publication.
- diversions does not guarantee publication of article/s
submitted for publication.
- diversions will consider articles relating to travel
destinations and leisure.
- diversions does not commission articles for publication
- A selection of low res digital pictures must be
submitted (10 or more if possible) simultaneously with the article.
- Please supply captions with pics.
- Every effort will be made to use original pictures supplied by the
journalist, but if pictures are unsuitable, or not print quality, diversions
reserves the right to source additional pictures (if necessary). There is no
guarantee that original pictures will be used.
- If the article has been previously published, please provide
brief details.
Article content
- Articles should be 1000 – 1200 words (please state number of words).
- Please provide a suitable header and short intro to each article.
- Info box should be limited to relevant contact details (telephone, web
addresses, emails etc) and where necessary, important information regarding
the destination.
- The onus is on the journalist to supply accurate information, especially
relating to contact details and to advise diversions of any changes in this
regard.
- diversions retains the right to edit articles.
- diversions does not re-send edited articles to
journalists for comment and/or approval.
Pictures
- diversions accepts original pictures as well as media
disks via email, post or hand delivery to our street address (15a 8th
Avenue, Parktown North, 2193, Johannesburg, South Africa).
- We only accept digital images - either on disk or via
email. We do not accept negatives.
- Digital images must be emailed in low resolution (72dpi) when first
submitting your article.
- High resolution images (300dpi) must be sent as soon as the
article is accepted for publication.
- 72 dpi pics will not be used.
- Pictures must be accompanied by short captions and full credit details.
- Pictures supplied on disk will not be returned, after publication,
unless collected.
- If using your own photographer, the onus is on you to pay the
photographer.
diversions will not enter into third party agreements,
unless previously agreed to in writing.
Payment Terms
- diversions pays R2000.00 per original article
including pictures.
- It is the contributors responsibility to ensure that "diversions"
receives an invoice so that payment can be made without delay (please email
to
diversions@diversions.cc ).
- Payments are made electronically on the last day of the following month
in which the article was published.
- Payment will only be made on receipt of invoice.
